An Attempt at a Theoretical Explanation of Violent Islamist Radicalization in Spain

This paper is the first in a series of papers that aim to address Islamist violent radicalization from different angles: nature context Spain; comparison between European, North American, and Indian radicalization; need refine territorial indexes within preventing relation other forms Europe. articles builds upon general theoretical framework established by author two previous works. These works are framed under known conception three layers micro, meso, macro factors contributing processes. The starts defining radicalization. Then, it explores explanations, finally, proposes an explanatory hypothesis tested against, on one hand, data proceeding institutional sources Spain and, other, some initial conversations Spanish security officials people who were radicalized past regretted or lived very close others did it.
